Hi,
a few weeks ago, I wanted to test a current version of chromium, the open source web browser on which Google Chrome is based. As there were several packages in AUR with the name chrome or chromium in its name, I asked on the IRC which one to use. I was recommended to choose "chromium-browser-latest", which worked pretty well.
When trying to update this package yesterday with "yaourt -Syu --aur", I had to notice that this package does not exist anymore:
~> yaourt -Syu --aur

chromium-browser-latest: not found on AUR
yaourt: up to date
Now I'm wondering which package to use instead:
~> yaourt chromium
1 community/chromium-bsu 0.9.14-1
A fast paced top scrolling shooter
2 aur/chrome-like-icons 1.3-1 (17)
Icon theme which is like chromium web browser icons.
3 aur/chromium-browser-bin LATEST-3 (409)
The open-source project behind Google Chrome
4 aur/chromium-browser-svn -18 (26)
An open source web browser developed by Google.
5 aur/iron 4.0.227-1 (110)
A web browser based on chromium without Google's tracking 'features'
The description of number 5 sounds insteresting: >>A web browser based on chromium without Google's tracking 'features'<<.
So, I am curious: What do you use? And why? - What are the differences between the packages number 3, 4 and 5?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Kind regards,
jamesbond007.

we clean up aur because we have a lot of builds for chromium. chromium-browser-latest was renamed to chromium-browser-bin.
3) is using the build from google bot
4) is downloading the source code for it from svn and then compiles(more than 1 hour for that)
5) http://www.srware.net/en/software_srwar … s_iron.php and doesn't have a native 64 build

Thx, wonder. I removed the old package and installed 3) which seems to work fine. About:version says it's "Chromium 4.0.223.0 (Developer Build 29105)".
What I am still missing is some kind of add-on administration inside chromium. Is it my fault that I just did not find it or does it simply not exist?

maybe because they are called extensions?

Maybe, but this site I was just browsing did not really seem to suggest that to me: http://www.mychromeaddons.com
But seriously: Is there a GUI configuration tool/dialog inside chromium that shows a list of the installed add-ons/extensions and allows e.g. to remove one? If yes: where is it hidden?

Thanks again, wonder. It's there, sorry for me being blinded! It's grayed out, but it's there. (Perhaps that changes when I install some extensions.)
One more question, I promise that this is the last one for today: With the package I had installed before (chromium-browser-latest) flash worked out of the box. With chromium-browser-bin, that is not the case. How can I fix that?

Εxtensions (many of them) are on chromeextensions.org

is working out of the box for me. maybe you have left overs from the old package? like some configuration file in /etc.

Does anyone know how up to date srware keeps iron? I would rather use it, but since chromium is still beta, I imagine it changes pretty frequently and I would like to be using a pretty up to date version.

They don't keep it very up to date, unfortunately. 1-2 months behind sometimes.
It'd be sweet if someone started a better-managed project that just maintains diffs against Chromium to take out the stuff privacy-conscious users wouldn't like in a Git tree or something.
This "Hey we made a different version, here's a humongous source pile or else binaries" model doesn't work.

There's a new iron in AUR and I like it quite a bit, have to install a lot of deps for 64bit though, but it runs good for me.
