"new" video card problems [SOLVED]

i had to swap the video card in my home theater pc. the card i had was an nvidia 7900gt. the card im putting in is an ati x300se. i removed all the nvidia stuff and when i try and install the xf86-video-ati driver it says it conflicts with xorg-server.

any idea what the problem might be?

EDIT: there was an xorg update i hadnt done yet. updated and it went in with no problems.
