Every time I install e17 it locks up X on me frequently. It doesn't do it when it's just idling, but I feel like if I click too much or too fast, it'll freeze on me.
It's very frustrating because it's like this every time I install it, which is about once a month, because I really want to use it.
And this happens on the first run, where I haven't even loaded it up with modules. I'll be changing the theme and it'll lock up on me.
A lot of people say that it's been super stable, but not for me.
I do have an Nvidia card with the latest proprietary drivers and I always install e17-svn from the community repos.
What's the deal, E?

Could be your graphics driver rather than E. I never had problems with e17 until the big intel driver update a while ago, and that straightened itself out. Try it with nouveau, nv, or vesa and see if the problem persists.

Yeah it's really nice, but it doesnt like my nvidia here either. When I used nouveau, the problem did not occur, but this can just be luck^^
This needs more testing..

I've had a few issues with it locking up on certain themes when I apply them, I can't remember which ones and I deleted them when they would lock up.
I've found these don't have any problems on my setup with nvidia, A-SBlack2, Azul_Elive, Azul_Elive, Bloody Imago.

With the e-svn packages from the repos I've had alot of stability problems. Be it locking up, crashing, etc. I switched back to easy_e17 and its alot more stable for me.

I've never had these issues with nvidia (Geforce 2 or geforce 6100). My issue I have is simple cpu usage but that is an x problem. I have to think that the issue lies elsewhere with you...

Still these issues with locking up. I built a whole new bunch of packages from svn myself, but it hasnt gotten better. So I'm back to xfce/lxde.

Running e17 for about 6 weeks now with zero stability issues. Using latest from pacman, nothing custom, very few extra modules, nothing shiny.
Using a radeon hd4850 x2, with the open drivers.
Only issue I've had is with multiple monitors, Xinerama, and getting shelves in the right place. That's offtopic though.
Did you try changing the engine or reinstalling E? Or the same, with your video drivers, as was already suggested.

I've reinstalled e17 several times, always from the community repo. I wont change from the proprietary nvidia drivers because I had stability issues with the free ones once or twice.
Maybe if I change the engine, things will get better. I might try that.

I have kept my E17 at a very old revision which I know is stable using my easy-e17 package (from 10-07-09) and it has been working great for me. If you'd like to know how, I made a tutorial here.

Having constant lock ups also. Oddly 10+ times a day or sometimes none .
Using NVIDIA's drivers & x86_64 fwiw. Will post what happens after I've found time to try my own e-svn + extras package rebuild

Is Bling less crash-prone now? Back when I was using E, that critter would crash E many times daily.

I've been giving e17 a try, svn package, looks good, hasn't crashed on me yet, even with bling.
