I'm trying to make 3d acceleration work on my machine.
However, if I enable "Desktop Effects" in KDE's System Settings I get the following error:
"Failed to activate desktops effects using the given configuration options.."
I have unchecked all effects in the "All Effects" tab.
Compositing type is "OpenGL" in the "Advanced" tab.
card : ATI Mobility X1400
driver : xf86-video-ati 6.12.99.git20091014-1
xorg : xorg-server 1.7.1.902-1

kernel : 2.6.31-ARCH with KMS enabled
glxinfo | grep -i opengl
OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 (RV515 7145) 20090101 TCL DRI2
OpenGL version string: 1.5 Mesa 7.6
OpenGL extensions:
With radeonhd it is even worse. Everything just gets real slow so I need to stay with the radeon driver.
Any hints?

1. Have you read the wiki ?
2. Have you tried a minimal xorg.conf ?
Section "Device"
Identifier "My Graphics Card"
Driver "radeon"
EndSection
3. Have you tried disabing KMS ?
4. Have you tried xf86-video-ati-git, from AUR ?

Yes, I've done all that, to no avail.
Everytime I "Resume Compositing" I get the message "Compositing has been suspended by another application.
You can resume using the ALT+SHIFT+F12 shortcut".
That does not work either....
I just wish I knew what the "another application" is....:(
