Configuring X with Trident driver

Hello

I'm new here and have been enjoying Arch Linux. I have 2 computers loaded so far with it. One as a desktop and another as a server.
I have been trying to load an old Toshiba Laptop (A Satellite 1800 model) with Arch Linux.
I get stuck at command Xorg -configure. The screen goes blank and nothing can be done to get out.
It does seem to create a xorg.conf.new file that I find after I reset the laptop but it doesn't work and nothing I've done to modify it has worked so far.

I know that my graphics card is a trident and have loaded it.
I'm not sure what info is needed here but I hope I can figure this out and I would be grateful to the users in the forum for any help you can offer.

Re: Configuring X with Trident driver

Try just starting X. xorg.conf is almost obsolete these days.

Re: Configuring X with Trident driver

If it's obsolete then why are the Wiki instructions still using them?

In either cases, just starting X isn't working. Tried to remove the xorg.conf file from /etc/X11 folder doesn't help either.

Any other ideas would be nice.

Thanks.

Re: Configuring X with Trident driver

Because it's a wiki. Someone will update when they have time/interest/motivation/whatever.

In the "other ideas" category - check your X log.

Re: Configuring X with Trident driver

Ya, that's a fact. I guess the updates of Wikipedia spoils people's belief of how quick things should get updated.
Tried a few other things and still no luck.
Here's the log. Thanks again.

This is a pre-release version of the X server from The X.Org Foundation.
