[SOLVED] LAN (atl1c) not working with 2.6.32.x kernel

Hello,
on my EEE PC, after upgrade to 2.6.32 kernel (.2 or .3) ARCH stock, my LAN is not working. It is not shown in lspci, nor there is eth0 in ifconfig -a.

This is of cat /var/log/kernel.log | grep -i atl. 16.47 is with .32, 16.59 is with .31 kernel:

Jan 10 16:47:28 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
Jan 10 16:47:28 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
Jan 10 16:47:28 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: version 1.0.0.1-NAPI
Jan 10 16:47:29 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
Jan 10 16:58:18 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
Jan 10 16:58:18 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
Jan 10 16:58:18 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: PME# disabled
Jan 10 16:58:18 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: PME# disabled
Jan 10 16:58:18 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: version 1.0.0.1-NAPI
Jan 10 16:59:36 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: irq 28 for MSI/MSI-X
Jan 10 16:59:36 kawagiri kernel: atl1c 0000:01:00.0: atl1c: eth0 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>

with .31 kernel:

lspci | grep -i net
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8132 / L1c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev c0)
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

I dit a bit of googling but didn't come to anything useful.

Any ideas?

Yes, it is simply broken. I have reinstalled 2.6.31 on my netbook. It's annoying, but the older kernel works fine. Let's hope 2.6.33 is better.

I am having the same trouble.  I have a new install and went from version .30 to .32

How do I get the .31 kernel installed?

Re: [SOLVED] LAN (atl1c) not working with 2.6.32.x kernel

Hiya, I was having the identical problem with an Acer AspireOne D250 netbook using the atl1c kernel mod.  The Arch Wiki entry for my netbook specifically has a workaround posted, though I believe it's applicable here:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ace … e_D250_LAN

With Archlinux 2009.08 the installation did not work from the beginning on an Aspire One D250. The LAN was not working properly. This could be traced down to the Kernel 2.6.30 which had broken network drivers. To get the LAN working, use the Archlinux core install. After installing Archlinux, get the Kernel 2.6.31 and the Kernel Headers on a USB stick and install it via "pacman -U". After rebooting, the LAN should work properly.

Hope this helps!

Re: [SOLVED] LAN (atl1c) not working with 2.6.32.x kernel

So it was broken in 2.6.30, they fixed it in 2.6.31 and then broke it again in 2.6.32?

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

Did you try toggling the wifi?  With 2.6.32 the wifi toggle on my eeepc toggles the lan instead of the wifi.  Once the lan adapter is showing in lspci it works as normal.

I've got that same hardware and everything works flawlessly. Perhaps what Wittfella said?

Re: [SOLVED] LAN (atl1c) not working with 2.6.32.x kernel

I was able to get eth0 to show up, and get my wired connection working.  I think the problem was, in the BIOS, I had bluetooth disabled.  Even though my ethernet was enabled, that small bluetooth change did the trick.

I was able to use the wireless to do a Net install from the USB image, and update the kernel to .32

I have not tried disabling the bluetooth from BIOS yet to see if I loose eth0 again.

Re: [SOLVED] LAN (atl1c) not working with 2.6.32.x kernel

Hey, it seems to work! Saddly when wi-fi is disabled again, LAN disappears after reboot, but stays until rebooted. Guess it won't matter, as when on battery I usually use wifi too, and when using LAN,  I usually am on AC. Thanks guys, seems its work-arounded till .33 (hope, it'll be fixed there once and for all).
