smooth image scaling in firefox

If you zoom webpages in firefox (which is practical if you have a high-resolution screen), images get very ugly.
It seems to be a problem with older version of cairo, and hence the reason why proper image zooming is not enabled on linux (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422179)

Actually there is a patch available (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=419100) which enables proper zooming, and it works perfectly if I patch xulrunner with it. The reason it's not on mainline seems that they do not want to depend on too recent versions of cairo.
But as arch has a recent version of cairo, it can be enabled without a problem.
Does anybody has an idea if it would make a change to get into the normal arch xulrunner build? Should I submit a bug for it, or won't it be accepted anyway?

Strange, never noticed that... thanks for pointing out.

As far as I understand, the bilinear filtering has not been enabled because of problems with some video drivers. Also, in the bug report, you mentioned, the patch is nominated for inclusion in xul 1.9.3. If I were you, I would standby and wait for the next release of xul, then, if the problem presists, file a feature request on bugs.archlinux.org.

Re: smooth image scaling in firefox

There is a fix for this on a ppa for ubuntu. I wonder if there is anyone here who can bring it across to AUR?

Don't expect them to fix it any time soon. It has been a persistent bug for a long time.
