[Solved] Brother mfc-j825dw not printing

I installed cups, followed by the drivers for the printer from the AUR. After using  system-config-printer or the cups web interface to install the printer, I try to print a test page.  The printer status says  processing, then idle. No errors and nothing printed.

I'm not even sure what output will help. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing everything relevant that I could think of. I tried following the cups entry on the wiki, but it hasn't helped.

It is a network printer, and the printer works fine on another install of Arch in the house.  I'm at a loss as to what is different.

[EDIT]  I was setting everything up correctly, but didn't have lib32-gcc-libs installed.

Without a little more, you are unlikely to have more help. You do not even tell us what driver you have installed from the AUR. All I can say is that  www.linuxprinting.org provide useful information about printing. You can enable logging from the cups interface and see the log in /var/log/cups

Re: [Solved] Brother mfc-j825dw not printing

Sorry about not being clear about the AUR install, I installed the brother-mfc-j825dw package, which includes the lpr and cups drivers. It is the driver from Brother.

I'll take a look through the linuxprinting.org website and continue to troubleshoot.  I had gone to look at the logs before and they are empty. No errors. No anything. Literally empty files, which is odd in and of itself, come to think of it.

I really wish it would spit up an error rather than pretend everything was fine.

The network is a network printer in itself (connected directly to the net)? Can you access it at all (network printers often have a web interface, with status, options, etc.). Ho do you have configured it?

Re: [Solved] Brother mfc-j825dw not printing

Okay, so after doing another re-install of cups et al, I was able to look at the logs in debug mode. I saw a file not found error that I could google for, which led me to this post, which solved my problem. In short, I was setting everything up correctly, but didn't have lib32-gcc-libs installed. For some reason this driver needs that, even though it seems unintuitive. All is well now. Thanks for looking.
