[SOLVED] Question about XScreensaver and screen wake up.

When I go to wake my monitor up the xscreensaver lock shows up but the screen saver is "off" and my mouse can't leave the perimeter of the unlock prompt.  Is this a design feature or is there a way to wake the screen with the screen saver showing and then have the prompt show?  I am using XFCE4 if it matters.  Thanks.
