pacman -Syu once a month or reinstall system? [SOLVED]

I'm a happy arch plasma user on my laptop. At home I have a very fast internet connection and I pacman -Syu every day or 2 days.

On september I'll go to University where the internet connection IS VERY BAD AND SLOW. Every month I'll return home.

What is better for best system performance:

1. Do a pacman -Syu at home ONCE A MONTH.

or

2. Reinstall a fresh system EVERY MONTH (with my scripts and fast connection I get up the whole system in half an hour).

Thank much!

[SOLVED] According your comments I realize that the best option is PACMAN -SYU ONCE A MONTH. Thank you all archers.

Once a month should be fine, just make sure you check the front page of the archlinux site to make sure you don't miss any major changes.

Why don't you just ask your secretary to do it?

Re: pacman -Syu once a month or reinstall system? [SOLVED]

Arch changes a lot, but reinstalling every month because you've missed updates for that period is taking it too far.

Even when you haven't updated in a year and missed major changes like the pacman hook update, you can get along by using the Arch Linux Archive (for intermediary updates) or the latest ISO (with pacman --root). With delayed KDE updates, you might have to remove old configuration files in your user account, though.
