[SOLVED] libreadline.so.6 needed for MrBayes

Hi,

I need to run MrBayes, (a scientific program for creating phylogenies) however it relies on libreadline.so.6 and since we're at ...so.7 it won't work (lib not found) now I'm not sure how to fix this.

Since a lot seems to depend on this I don't want to try and downgrade it.

Cheers

How did you install mrbayes?  The aur package for it works fine with a current readline.  If you are using the AUR package, you do need to rebuild it against current libs.

I'm using the MPI version from the AUR, maybe therein lies the problem...

So rebuild it, as Trilby suggested. If you can't rebuild it for some reason, post the errors you get.

It's the same software, just a different configure flag - rebuild it already and your problem will be solved.

Great, thanks this worked, wasn't sure how to do it. Reinstalling didn't work so I removed it first and then installed it fresh. now it works.

Re: [SOLVED] libreadline.so.6 needed for MrBayes

There was no need to remove it first. All you had to do, as pointed out, was rebuild it. I can only assume that you are using some AUR helper, which you should not be doing if you don't know how the AUR works. Learn how to manage AUR packages without any AUR helper first, and once you are comfortable installing AUR packages using only makepkg and pacman, then you can start looking into AUR helpers.
