How do I completely get rid of a DE?

I am currently using XFCE4 and don't like it. I want to switch back to Gnome, but I don't want all the XFCE files that I have installed to get it working. What would be the best way to go about it?

and ditch all config files in ~ related to Xfce 4.6. A lot are in .config.
