EDIT: Apparently it was either a random fluke or a permission problem. Even though it showed that bran owned everything in /home/bran I ran chown -R bran:bran /home/bran just to be sure, then just for the hell of it ran sudo chown -vRL bran:bran /home/bran and everything is back as it was before!
I just reinstalled arch lastnight along with kdemod3. I had a few problems but they were because of errors in my installation script, I finally got everything installed, working and customized the way I wanted it to be but I had to go into windows for something so I rebooted but when I tried to login Ksplash hung at the second icon, crashed, and then I got all these errors about mime types and programs not being installed. The only thing that were displayed were my wallpaper, the system tray, clock and the K menu (which only contained find, run, lock session and logout).
I switched to vc1 to see if my user bran owned every in /home/bran which it did
bash-3.2# ls -la /home
drwx------ 25 bran bran 4096 2009-04-29 16:20 bran
drwx------ 13 bubba bubba 4096 2009-04-29 16:22 bubba
bash-3.2# ls -la /home/bran

i restarted kdm and created a new user called 'bubba' via vc1 just to see if it was a problem with my /home/bran directory or a system wide problem and when i logged in using bubba everything worked perfectly. ksplash didnt even crash, which it has for some reason for about the last 2 months even after a completely clean installation.
I am at a complete loss here....

Well, you can always try making a new kde configuration. Just move .kde to .kde_backup or something and login again. I would avoid making changes to permissions in your home directory on a large scale. It can mess things up big time (executable flags, ...). But if you only changed the user permissions, it should be alright.
Edit: Dough, I missed the "[Solved]" part

I have also been having some problem with ksplash crashing in kdemod3.
Selected a new theme for ksplash and now everything works again :-).
