Hey,
I don't really know whether this problem occurs just since the yesterday update of videoproto and the unichrome driver - maybe it also existed before, but less frequent.
When I start Xorg directly after booting up my machine get this nice error :
xauth: creating new authority file /home/johannes/.serverauth.4269

After this all my virtual consoles (ALT+F1...) are not usable anymore and just show my background image (loaded via feh) but I can start X via ssh a second time (and a third... or a fourth...) and this time it works. It just happens if my .xinitrc contains a first line like "setxkbmap us&"... I mean just putting this into another line (or just leave it out) solves the problem. But it is so strange that I like to ask you whether you have an idea what happens. Also I cannot reproduce this problem with my laptop Computer ... I'm just stumped

just ignore the MPD error... it is just because mpd is not running

i also have this problem (i think), when i try to load xfce i get a blank screen and have to press the power button to restart
i get the error in xorg.log
[xkb] BOGUS LENGTH in write keyboard desc, expected 5112, got 5128
i think this is a bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=469572

I also have the same problem, though for me it only occurs immediately after logging in to openbox from gdm. It doesn't always occur, but when
it does, it prevents me from doing anything with the system (except ssh'ing to it). I tried gaining back my control by using SysRQ
(http://wiki.archlinux.de/title/SysRQ), but to no avail. The command reached the system (which I can tell from the message log), but it didn't help.
If this is of interest, this is what my output looks like:
[xkb] BOGUS LENGTH in write keyboard desc, expected 7360, got 7376

I'm not using setxkbmap, but instead I suspect the following line in my autostart script to be the source of evil:
(sleep 3 && numlockx on) &
I commented it out and will now try whether the problem reoccurs (which might take some time, as it is very unfrequent).
Offline
i disabled setxkbmap in .xinitrc and everything seems fine, using xfce keyboard settings instead
