dwm - systray?

Hi folks.

Im trying out some tiling WM's, and have spend some time on awesome and dwm.
I think the configuration on awesome is hard as hell, and the documentation is far from helpful, maybe caused it has changed so many times, I don't know.

So Im now giving dwm a try, and I love it, except that I really really mis a system tray for pidgin, deluge etc.. Awesome has one, that nicely integrate with the tags - eg. clicking the piding icon in systray sends me right away to the correct tag with piding on it.

Is this posible with dwm? I have quickyl tried out stalonetray and trayer, but I can't the the design integrated with the statusbar on the top of the screen. Also, nothing happends when clicking the icons, I have to manually go to the correct tag that holds the app.

Any help?

Otherwise I find myself bound to learn how to customize awesome. I find the config.h (and the recompiling) from dwm really simple compared to awesomes' rc.lua neutral

Re: dwm - systray?

The only possibility for a system tray with dwm would be to use one of the apps like you've already tested.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Re: dwm - systray?

I'm working with dwm/dmenu and stalonetray as well.

I've reached many learning curves myself .... like right now.... though obviously I just need to learn a bit more.

Stalonetray does work for me brilliantly with screen via dwm.  Click the icon and app opens.
That said, I've a ways to go to get things as I've seen them be with some of the gurus.

Are you using dwm 5.4.1  ?

Re: dwm - systray?

I use trayer.  dwm is configured to show trayer only on tag 9.  I access it without moving away from my current tag by either right-clicking on tag 9 in the statusbar or pressing Ctrl+Mod+9:

    { "trayer", NULL, NULL, 1 << 8, False },

This seems like a really nice solution wink
