Add legacy k3b to kdemod-legacy?

I've just noticed that the core k3b package switched to 1.65.0alpha1-1, which uses KDE4. Before that, I used 1.0.5-2. Are there any plans to include k3b-1.0.5-2 in kdemod-legacy so that KDE3 users can continue using it? I don't want to install KDE4 just yet.

And yes, I realize that this is a completely wrong place to post this... It's basically a feature request for KDEMod, and I would post it in their bugtracker, but I'm too lazy to create an account just for submitting one issue :-(

Same here. I wont have computer access for the next week, after that I'll upload kdemod3-k3b.

Re: Add legacy k3b to kdemod-legacy?

Hm, this turns out to be to tricky for me - in the meantime, I cannot -Syu at all. I have put k3b into IgnorePkg to avoid the kdelibs/kdemod3-kdelibs conflict. Pacman gives me a warning that k3b will be ignored, and then breaks off with the comment "k3b requires ffmpeg>20070131". WTF? k3b should be ignored, right - as well as its dependencies. I have figured out so far that the versioning style of ffmpeg has just changed from the older format to a simple 0.5 style. Which means that the version number of the new ffmpeg is regarded as too low, and it is actually the already installed version of k3b which complains about removing one of its dependencies.

Since I am probably not the only one with this problem, I should consider the options in public:

a) Remove k3b, update, reinstall k3b from cache. Bad idea, won't work, since ffmpeg's version is too low.

b) ffmpeg was drawn in as a dep. Remove by force, reinstall --asexplicit, update - very bad idea, k3b still broken (if it would work at all).

c) Blacklist ffmpeg, too. But there are four other important apps dependent on ffmpeg on my system (sox, vlc, xine-lib, zattoo). What will happen when one of them will require version 0.5 on Saturday?

d) Don't update at all until buddabrod is back from holiday (or pilgrimage, or his amazon rainforest expedition, or whatever he does).

e) Switch to brasero, which is not dependent on ffmpeg.

Wellcome to my personal dependency hell.:D How did they do this in 1995?

I could live with d), but will probably try the adventurous c). Any other suggestions, any faults in this twisted logic so far?

EDIT: c) works (so far) ...

One vote for: "Add legacy k3b to kdemod-legacy"

I don't want/don't need kde4, but i'd like to upgrade ffmpeg.

e) find the pkgbuild from the old k3b package from SVN (probably even one in the AUR by now) and rebuild it against ffmpeg.

@Tomi:  If you want this in kdemod, you probably should go to their forums and ask...

Re: Add legacy k3b to kdemod-legacy?

@tlalock

Well,I solve the same problem in this way smile

First remove currently installed ffmpeg with "pacman -Rd ffmpeg"

Then go to the one of many offical arch mirrors and download fresh ffpmeg package, here ya go here

ftp://mirror.archlinux.cl/extra/os/i686 … pkg.tar.gz

And finally, install package with "pacman -U ffmpeg-0.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz" and add k3b to ignore list in your pacman.conf

After all that "pacman -Syu" update should work fine

Sorry for crappy english wink

@ Full_Metal_Yakuza
I managed as you described and that was it!
Thank You! smile

P.S. instead of adding k3b to ignore list in pacman.conf, I issued

pacman -Syu --ignore k3b
