Space between terminals in awesome wm

Terminals (granted I've only tried urxvt and xterm) have padding around them for some reason. It's usually on the right and bottom (as seen here http://www.picamatic.com/view/3790176_b/), but it sometimes ends up on the left as well.

I remember seeing a fix a while back that had to do with .Xdefaults, but can't find it for the life of me.

Anyone happen to remember what it was?
