I can't seem to launch xmonad by itself. I tried adding exec xmonad to .xinitrc, creating a gdm session file..both methods don't work. I used the default xmonad.hs config file for testing. I don't get any errors either, not from X, not from xmonad.errors. I can however replace metacity with xmonad in gnome.

How do you know it doesn't start? What actually happens?

Well, it seems to load but I end up with a black screen (which might be normal cause I haven't a wallpaper yet). I can't use any keys to start a terminal or do any other action.

alt+shift+enter
That should pop up an xterm...if it does, you're running Xmonad...ain't it a beauty ?
Like a car with a silent engine (you can hardly tell it's running)

The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

Hehe yea I already know it's a beauty. The problem is that alt+shift+enter doesn't pop up a terminal I've used XMonad before, so using it is no problem...getting it to start properly is.

The keyboard works in gnome and in the virtual terminals, so I presume it should work in xmonad as well.

Hmm, it seems to work now. Not sure what I did (probably nothing ), but the terminals now launch and I see the mouse.
