Open the gnome Volume Control, and there should be a tab called Sound Theme there.

[EDIT]
Disregard this... That tab exists, but it doesn't seem to let you configure your login sound.

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome - how can i change the login sound?

I just wanted to add that in case you can't find any other way of enabling a login sound, you could add something like this to either ~/.xinitrc (if you use that file to start gnome-session) or System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications:

aplay /usr/share/sounds/login.wav

Or, for a more geeky version, you could install community/espeak and use something like this instead:

espeak "Welcome to the system. My lord and master, it is delightful to serve you again."
