Install kde from my harddisk

My Arch could not surf the Internet through my LAN. I could only have Windows XP and Arch both on my computer.

I installed Arch some weeks ago using CD of archlinux-2009.02-core-i686.iso. I also downloaded all the packages about kde under /src in http://www.kde.org/download/.

They are kdeadmin-4.2.3.tar.bz2 、kdeartwork-4.2.3.tar.bz2 、 kdebase-4.2.3.tar.bz2 、 kdebase-runtime-4.2.3.tar.bz2 、 kdebase-workspace-4.2.3.tar.bz2 、 kdegraphics-4.2.3.tar.bz2 and kdesdk-4.2.3.tar.bz2. I put them under WinXP 's f:/src.

I can mount f: and cp them somewhere under Arch.

Now I have a question. How could I install them on my lovely Arch?

I have surfed the Internet looking for answers. However, I could have little imply. Could someone talented help me solve the problem?  Thank you!

Re: Install kde from my harddisk

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think you are asking how to install applications when you are offline. If that's the case, have a look here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Off … f_packages.

However, I think it would be a much better idea to find out why you could not surf the internet from your Arch system, and fix it. Start with the wiki's Network page, and take it from there. An Arch system without a network connection is much harder to use and maintain.

One more thing - the files you listed above are not packages. They are the tarballs that provide kde's source code. kde packages for Arch are provided in Arch's 'extra' repo, and can be downloaded from any Arch mirror.

Re: Install kde from my harddisk

Thank u very much! My english is not so good! hehe!  Yes, I want to install kde offline using my pre-downloaded packages.

Perhaps I downloaded the source packages instead of the binary packages.

I googled a network offering Arch extra packages. http://darkstar.ist.utl.pt/archlinux/extra/os/i686/

I would see the wiki first and then download the packages.
My school's LAN uses some software to contact the WAN. It's a pity that there are not such software for Arch.

Thank you again!

If you tell us more about the software your school is using, someone might have an idea.

Re: Install kde from my harddisk

Oh, Thank you very much! It is so good of you. The software is something called Dr.COM.

I found the Linux version in http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile … _id=234598.  I downloaded the version of drcom-1.4.8.1.tar.gz and installed it on my Arch last night. Everything is OK except that it doesn't work.:(

When I use

 drcomc login

. It showed that

_recv_dialog_packet(PKT_CHALLENGE) failed
_recv_dialog_packet(PKT_CHALLENGE) failed
_recv_dialog_packet(PKT_CHALLENGE) failed
Login failed

You're welcome, but don't get too excited yet. :)

I was simply pointing out that saying that your school uses "some software" and that Arch does not have "such software" is pointless, because nobody here knows what software you are talking about. You may get an answer here, but I suggest you also try some or all of the options listed here.

There's some documentation on that site as well, btw - just in case you haven't already noticed it.

Thank u! hehe! It's no doubt that u have helped me so much! Believe it or not, it's wonderful to talk to somebody who love the same kind of OS with u. There are nearly none around me using Arch.

I didn't notice them when I surf the Internet. My english is not good enough.

I will try to gain more knowledge from the Internet.

Re: Install kde from my harddisk

Good work.

You should consider ceating an Arch package for drcom-client and submitting it to the AUR, to help other Arch users in similar circumstances. All the details are in the wiki.

Hehe, it's a good idea to submit it to the AUR. OK, I will try to make it.
