Is open office this slow?

Installed openoffice from the arch repos using pacman
and when i run it using soffice, it opens up and I open a ppt document with the window that props up, problem was everytime I move from slide to slide, it lags abit.
when I saw my cpu / memory load it is below average plus I didn't encounter this when running openoffice 2.4 on ubuntu hardy heron either so what is causing the lag and how do I prevent it?

Re: Is open office this slow?

Try go-openoffice.

"From first-time startup, where we sort I/O to reduce seek cost, to a highly optimised second start application and a systray quick-starter on Linux we are faster. We use less memory than up-stream, we link faster, use better system allocators, and don't waste so much time & memory in the registry. Go-oo performance is hard to beat".

First check you 2d gfx card performance. It's more likely a driver setup issue than OOo.

run top/htop. what process makes high load?
