Hi,
I've somehow got a KDEmod 3 application (ksnapshot) spawning uncontrollably. After a reboot it just keeps on spawning faster then I can do anything. What am I to do?

uninstall?

Sounds like an idea ... Should be also some config in KDE responsible for running apps management...

This may seem a weird question, but have you checked your keyboard? I find I can easily replicate what you describe in KDE4 if I hold down KSnapShot's trigger key (Print Screen) down for long enough. Even if the key doesn't look down there might be something weird going on there.

uninstall?
terrible, this solution..
what causes it? like the former post said, do you have a key stuck? are you running a script? try "killall ksnapshot" from terminal/run command?
"I know what you're thinking, 'cause right now I'm thinking the same thing. Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here:
Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?"

Exactly my case! I find it extremely unlikely, to say the least, that we two have keyboards with sticky PrintScreen's. How did you manage to put the stop to the party, BTW? I really had to uninstall ksnapshot...

You could try to remove the shortcut to launch KSnapshot and see if that helps. (This is not a workaround, but rather a way to narrow down the possible causes of the problem).
I'm not at home at the moment so I can't check which file it is, but I guess it's in ~/.kde/share/config.

I'm not on Archlinux, I'm on Kubuntu 9.04, but I had the same problem
my solution was to use pkill from terminal (Alt + F2, then type in konsole, tough to use the menu when ksnapshot is spawning )
from terminal
pkill ksnapshot
not sure whether this will work for you, but it did the trick for me.

@Llama and Jarsto --- I'm reporting the same trigger, held the PrintScreen Key down for too long.
symptoms same as well: Ksnapshot kept spawning even after the key wasn't depressed anymore. Well I was, for a while anyway

Wow, funnily my mother was calling some nights ago in horrible terror that ksnapshot is spawning endlessly.
Of course i was thinking she did something to cause that behaviour, but if i read the messages here
i may have to excuse my mother.
She is runninung Kubuntu 9.04 so this seems to be a wider problem.
Is a bug report known?
However, i told here to press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart the X-server and relog into
Kde. That helped and it didnt appear again up to now.

Yeah, it seems to be a common bug, at least with Jaunty - I'm posting links to bug reports

Interestingly enough, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace had no effect on my system when Ksnapshot was spawning, so I had to use pkill
However, the problem resurfaced at the next boot: so I had to uninstall Ksnapshot
I'll try reinstalling and post an update on that later

Oh and btw, uninstalling ksnapshot also removes kubuntu-desktop so make sure to reinstall that before shutting down

you could use scrot instead. no need to uninstall ksnapshot.

funnily i'd the same problem today. ksnapshot was spawning uncontrollably.. on killing ksnapshot i get a msg from kdaemon saying klauncher couldnt launch /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksnapshot.desktop
i dont understand the purpose of /usr/share/applications/ directory.. it contains a lot of *.desktop files, can somehow please care to explain.
for now i have renamed /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksnapshot.desktop, it has stopped the spawning
