Fvwm/Fvwm-crystal hangs on startx

I installed fvwm(later fvwm-crystal), and added fvwm/fvwm-crystal to .xinitrc, then I start by startx, the screen hangs with only a cross cursor in the middle, this is same for fvwm/fvwm-crystal, except fvwm-crystal shows desktop wallpaper, panel whereas fvwm shows a black screen.

I searched in Google and see someone mentioned I need to specify terminal, otherwise it hangs on start, so I copyed .fvwm2rc file and put it in both ~ and ~/.fvwm but it does not help.

Does anyone have any idea?

Yes, it seems fvwm (crystal or not) is waiting for some specific window. Try hitting Alt-Ctrl-Esc, if fvwm then loads, then this is the problem. Look in the config for a "Wait" line and install the program it needs or comment this line out.
