Hey fellow Archers!
Since the latest update through pacman the floppy symbol is now showing up permanently on the Xfce desktop even though there is no floppy in the drive.
Has anyone else the same "problem"?

Have you tried disabling it? Settings > Desktop > Icons (Just a thought...)

Thanks Jason.
Of course I could do that. But that's not an option because than I would also have no icons for all the other removable devices, like for example my USB devices or CD/DVD-ROMs.
For the latter mentioned devices the icons only show up when I really connect my USB drive to my computer or when I put a DVD-ROM in the drive. Only the floppy is always showing up, even though there isn't even a disk in the drive.

I'm just guessing, but I presume the reason for that is that floppy drives don't announce to the OS when a disk is inserted, and therefore to automount requires an icon to click on.
Whereas CDs and USB drives do announce themselves, and so the icon can be created when the media is inserted?

Can't you disable the floppy by commenting it out in /etc/fstab ?

Then you wouldn't be able to mount it easily.

Sorry, but is anybody out there really still using floppy disks?
