tightVNC on XFCE4

ok so i've followed this guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tightvnc and i can't get it working for XFCE4, it works great for GNOME as i tested but for XFCE4 i get the tips starting up in their normal window but behind looks like the chain-mail that X gives you and i get the mouse pointer looking like a big X

does the wiki need updating?

If you would like to remote into a machine with vnc and actually see and interact with the root desktop you can use x11vnc, which provides access to the root (:0) desktop by default.

You've tried this?
