kde 4: good ole right click file association

Hi,

There used to be no problem, until today smile . Right Click->Open With->Other->Open With Dialog.

The Open With Dialog used to present a checkbox Always use this app for this type of file or something to that effect. Now the checkbox's gone. Where to?

It's a lot more fun than I've ever imagined. On another box (the same Arch, the same vanilla KDE) the problem appears to be nonexistent. The much coveted checkbox is Remember application association for this type of file.

How can an arch be the same on two different hardware ? Are the same serie, and have you mirrored the full os ?

Problem doesn't exist here too.

Strictly speaking, no way, of course smile . At least, both installations use the same repos, and the trouble can have nothing to do with periphery (probably).

Some config, very likely.

Re: kde 4: good ole right click file association

Maybe some details are in order...

If I try to reassign a known extension (i.e. mp3), everything is OK (Remember application association for this type of file checkbox is in place).

The trouble actually starts if I need to assign an unknown extension (fla; I've got a bunch of flac files with such 3-letter extension). Does it ring a bell?

FLA is a flash extension if i'm correct. FLAC has .flac as its extension.

Does the same problem happen when you try to assign other unknown extensions, or just .fla?

In my case they are flacs: somebody else decided to use .fla extension.

The same happens with any unknown extension.
