Re: recommend DE

You should run the one that you like best.  You'll need to do some experimenting and try a few of them to know for sure which one that is.  Otherwise, I'd start with KDE, or Gnome, and then go from there.

Hope you have fun with it!

Re: recommend DE

How long is a piece of string? Seriously, without any parameters about your needs, hardware, applications etc., this question is a little meaningless...

Re: recommend DE

By "DE" you're limiting yourself to either Gnome, KDE, or XFCE--the same old ones that are everywhere else....there are of course lots of window managers-but those are not full fledged DEs by any means.

Re: recommend DE

Load a few up and have a look. Checkout KDE as the latest version of it looks interesting. If KDE is close to what you need also check out Gnome and XFCE. If KDE, XFCE and Gnome feel a little heavy look at some window managers. Fluxbox or Openbox maybe. There are many to choose from.

Re: recommend DE

openbox is indeed nice smile If you want a light desktop that you can tweak yourself. If not use KDE or Gnome

Re: recommend DE

My suggestion is you try some and decide for yourself. It's like buying audio equipment: it's your taste that matters, not the one of others.
