migrate from kdemod to kde [Solved]

hello archers.

what is the correct steps to migrate from kdemod to kde?

pacman -Rscnd kdemod-uninstall 
pacman -S kde

pacman -Rcns kdemod

(without -d, never do that like that)


then check with

pacman -Q | grep kde

if there is any package left from kdemod.

Then

pacman -S kde

or

pacman -S kde-meta

If you want to have the same settings, rename the .kdemod4 (or like that, I don't remember which directory is exactly) to .kde4

Another important step is to enter into runlevel 3, so that X is not loaded. You can do that with sudo telinit 3. I suggest that you search for the KDE packages that you really want to install, now that the official KDE in Arch is splitted, just like KDEMod.

Example: Switching from KDEmod-core to Arch KDE:
1. Remove the [kdemod-core] entry in your pacman.conf
2. Run pacman -Rd kdemod-uninstall
3. Run pacman -Suy
4. Install KDE: pacman -S kde

That's how I did it, too. And now I'm using vanilla KDE without any issues.

If you really want to use -d here please makre sure your pacman db is still consitent with testdb.
