hey i just bought a dell, wiped off vista cuz i could get it to dual boot with arch, and just put arch. everything went fine until i tried to test run xorg. i just get a blank screen. i have integrated intel graphics. im using the open source intel driver. the X11 log doesnt report a single error. i've followed all the instructions in the beginners guide. i read other posts of people not having this problem so i have no idea what to do. i also heard that dell integrated graphics arent very powerful but thats not the problem.

did you configure your xinitrc? and if you did, did you do it as user rather then root?
if you not sure, do a
nano /home/your-user-name/.xinitrc
if its empty, thats your problem

What do you mean black screen? You run "startx" and nothing showed up? Have installed some desktop environment or some window manager?
The easiest way to test xorg is:
pacman -S openbox
openbox

Could this wiki extract help?

Check if your user are in hal and dbus group.
If not type this command's: gpasswd -a user hal gpasswd -a user dbus And after this startx.
