Just install kdebase-workspace, it will install a minimal, but working KDE, without even Konqueror, Dolphin, Konsole, etc.
It works nicely.

No, no, kdebase was minimal in KDE3. You can't login into KDE with kdebase, but with kdebase-workspace.

seems to me that is a bug, kdebase-workspace doesn't belog on kdebase group.
