When I try to open a .doc with Openoffice it is almos empty. There are only a few words the rest is blank. Open the same file with Abiword gives me a page with black and red text that is impossible to read. It is "compressed" so the letters are mixing together. What can I do to correct that?

Does this happen with all .doc files or are you trying only a particular one? I'd say there is a good chance that your .doc file is corrupted if it is borked for both OO and Abiword.

Hello!
Yeah, rcoyner can have right. From where is this document, from $MS word ? Can you open it correctly anyway ?

I can open it from a Vista computer. It's the schedule for my work. Its written in some kind of template. The prewritten text is there but not the important things (like when I should be at work). Its blank from Arch.

It is not solved but if I open it with oo writer and saves it as a .odt file I can open and read it. Still want to be able to read a non-downloaded file. I have an eeepc running Debian Lenny and there it isn't any problem to open it with Abiword. I haven't Openoffice on that machine because of the limited diskspace.

I have now a fresh install of Arch on my eeepc. I can open those .doc files with Abiword on that machine but still not on my acer aspire laptop. Is it possible that it has something to do with 32 and 64-bits install. I run 32-bits on my eeepc and 64 on the other one.
