Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Hi everyone..

I just reinstalled Arch after a few months with Mint, and (almost) everything is going well.  One problem I have is that everytime I reboot, and log back into KDE, a couple of the icons/widgets on the panel have moved around (regardless of whether or not I "lock" them in place). Has anyone else experienced this, or have any solutions to this?

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Hmm.. I used to have this problem with kdemod 4.2.4, and a side panel, haven't had a problem since 4.3 though. Perhaps you could try moving your ~/.kde4 and seeing if anything happens?

Edit: it seems I spoke too soon; I set up my panels like I had them last time and the same thing happens.... It looks like if you have a side panel, your plasmoids on that panel get messed up...

Are you on KDEMod or Extra-KDE.

Amongst the few unofficial "features" I've found--this isn't one of them on ma' Extra-KDE4.3 Arch64.

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Hey thanks for the responses..

I'm not use kdemod, just the regular KDE.  I'll try moving my ~/.kde folder and see if it fixes it....Will this totally reset all my settings like my desktop theme,  wallpaper, icons etc?

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Why, where else should your settings be saved? But I think it's ~/.kde4

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Yes, it is ~/.kde4. But be careful since e.g. KMail by default saves its mails in there. Also, I doubt you have to get rid of it all. Only the plasma config files should be enough.

Try this before starting KDE:

rm ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktoprc ~/.kde4/share/config/plasmarc

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

I have the same problem after upgrading to Kdemod 4.3, when I start session the panel opens up with the icons that where on the roght side centered and with a blocked empty space to the right. it only fixes when i add another graphical element.
I was considering removing Kdemod and going to extra/KDE  but it seems the issue is also present in KDE...

Please tell me, Was the problem solved?

Well, that solution has never worked for me...

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Hello

I suffered very simular problems.  I had a bottom panel (centered 75% with a task bar and system manager) and a top panel (50% several widgets, centered and autohiden).  After every reboot my panels would be left aligned and the widgets could be anywhere within thier parent panel.

After much playing about tonight I have nailed it down (I think) to the default Plasma theme, Air.  By changing the Plasma theme to another I seem to have fixed the problem.  I will try and speak to someone on #plasma to find out if this is know or not and if not file a bug.

Hope this helps.

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

changed the theme from 'air' to 'oxygen' but no difference

EDIT: following the above suggestion by "mutlu_inek" seems to have solved my problem, Thanks! (maybe the thread should be labeled as [SOLVED]?)
for extra/kde

rm ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma*

or for kdemod

rm ~/.kdemod4/share/config/plasma*

EDIT2: after setting my graphic elements the problem reappeared, maybe it's a bug of one of them? I'm using these elements: Lancelot launcher, show desktop, quick launch, stasks, systemtray, digital clock, device notifier, battery monitor and block/logout. (some of the names maybe different because my language is spanish and freely translated the names).

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Well... I finally figured out a way to keep my plasmoids from jumping around at next login...
It seems that if I put any plasmoid in the bottom space of my side panel, then at next login it moves...
As long as I leave that space blank, no plasmoids jump around...

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

Tried with Air and Krandios plasma themes and got shifting of one plasmoid.  Tried:

mv plasma-appletsrc{,.old} plasma-desktop-appletsrc{,.old} plasma-desktoprc{,.old} plasmarc{,.old} plasmoidviewer-appletsrc{,.bck}

But no luck.  Looks like this is related to certain plasmoids.  For me it was panel spacer.  If I set it below default size it would loose it's position.

Re: Kde 4.3 panel problems...

I removed every plasmoid and restarted session with the same problem... so maybe it¡s a bug of the panel itself.
is really not everybody experiencing this trouble?

EDIT: I moved from Kdemod to extra/KDE and no difference
