Hello.
LXDE is faster/lighter but If you want something really light try WM like Openbox,Fluxbox,EvilWM,Tiling WM and any other.

Re: Ligjtweoght Desktop Environment

Xfce4. I had it installed on a very old Debian Stable installation with 256 MBytes of RAM, and with HAL the most demanding daemon running in the background, it consumed (at most) around ~80 Mbytes of RAM. The same would happen in Arch I suppose, but I haven't tried that. The most lightweight environment I have used for most is Awesome WM, with which, at login, I have 120 MB RAM usage.

In my opinion you shouldn't look only for a lightweight DE. You should think about the needed features and after that you can  have a look on the lightweightness or the look Lightweightness or beauty should never be the primary reason for a program...

I have 120mb ram usage at login running KDE4.3!
In openbox it is 80mb. (had debian+openbox on an old imac wich used 40mb ram) It's all relative!

LXDE is the lightest DE I know! It is openbox with some tools bundeled.
