Keyboard/touchpad not responsive with KDM

This is my first post here, and it's kind of an odd one. Apologies in advance, I'm not even really sure how to troubleshoot this.

I have a Lenovo Y510, and when I boot to runlevel 3 the keyboard works, but when I boot to KDM it is totally unresponsive (as is the touchpad). I've never had to configure a touchpad before, so once "X --configure" didn't do the trick, I'm kind of lost. Any advice on how to proceed with this?

Did you install:

xf86-input-evdev
xf86-input-keyboard
xf86-input-synaptics  ???

Did you start the dbus and HAL daemons before xorg?
