Cannot automount usb, cdrom, dvd since I update kernel

Hi all,

I cannot automount my usbdrive, cd, dvd since I downgrade my kernel to kernel26-2-30.2 (which I know is not the latest).

I am also using hal 0.5.11-4 (downgrade again, since this is the only one that allow me to restart and shutdown without problems). I have to manually mount my usbthumb drive which is annoying to say the less. I have try the following:

1)udev tips and tricks

2)autofs

3)  hal

but no sucess. what I want, is when I place my usb stick in the port it pop up on my desktop as it use to.

My desktop manager is xfce4.  Any help please. ( I am a linux newbie)

Thanks
