Is it possible to install a virtualbox guest (windows 7) on a usb drive? Can it be done on the virtualbox PUEL? I don't have much space on my arch partition to allow for it, I only have about 10gb left, and that's after cleaning up everything I could find.

or atleast use the external usb drive for virtual hard disk space on the windows guest?

Try and you will find out, if it's possible or not.

The GUEST hdd is just a file that you can save anywhere you want when you setup the machine. All you have to do is to save that hdd to your USB drive, and make the machine setting in VBOX point to that file. If you want an entire USB VBOX, there is always Portable Virtualbox, but it's only available for Windows afaik

Yup, I tried it, I think it will actually work. I was into the install and another problem came into play... I don't have enough ram. sucks... only have 1gb total... don't have the required 512mb to run windows 7.

Welcome to the world of hardware failure
How did you check the ram usage btw? Maybe it shows how much FREE ram you got, not total
