Hello guys,
I have a big problem:
My X-server (with Xfce) randomly freezes.
Today I realized, that it only happens if I'm hitting multiple keys at the same time or very fast in a row.
I don't assume, that specific keys are the reason.
Besides this happens just in Terminals, but I guess that's because Terminals are the only application I'm writing that fast.
May anybody help me?

Do you mean DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) or KMS (Kernel Mode Setting)? I'm asking b/c you mention it under graphics.

I'm sorry I meant KMS !

Unless there's an obvious error message in /var/log/{everything,Xorg.0}.log, it's probably not worth it trying to debug this, given the heavy develpoment that xf86-video-intel, xorg-server and kernel are in at the moment.
The general consensus seems to be that KMS works a lot better with the 2.6.31 kernels, so I would grab kernel26 and kernel26-firmware from testing, and, well, test it. Just make sure your fallback kernel is the current one.

there is no error message, neither in Xorg.log nor in messages.log
you think that problem is connected to the intel driver or could it also be the keyboard-driver (i guess evdev)?
thanks for your reply

I think the problem is connected to the intel driver. Look through the forums and you see lots of problem reports.
My current mode of working is that I always try out the latest drivers once they become available, but I also have a directory with known good driver packages as a fallback solution. So if things break, I can go to that directory and do pacman -U *.pkg.tar.gz.

okay thanks
nice idea, I'll give it a try

update:
I acted on your advice and installed the new xf86-video-intel 2.9.0 driver, but X is still crashing
the exact prodecure is:
I'm working in a terminal (never happens in firefox or sth.else) and suddenly while tipping the screen goes black (cursor is still visible but frozen, too)
ctrl+alt+F1, ctrl+alt+del don't work, just alt+s-abf+REISUB are helping me for a proper reboot !
do I really have to up- or downgrade everything like Xfce or Xorg or whatever for testing?

You cannot just up/downgrade xf86-video-intel , there are a few other packages that need to be in sync. Xorg is part of that, Xfce is not.
I can only suggest two more things:
1. try with the current packages, in particular kernel26 2.6.31-3, with and without KMS
2. Follow the instructions at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 38#p623838

thanks again, i downgraded to the versions you posted in the other thread
and at first sight it works just fine!
btw just out of curiousity:
version 1.6.1..901 is the first RC of the upcoming 1.6 stable?
that means if other problems occurs (or the same delayed ), then it's the best solution to switch to the stable 1.5 version, right?

The combination of xorg-server and xf86-video-intel has been problematic for about a year now. It is unlikely that going back to 1.5 would be an improvement. The reason that I suggested the versions above is not because of xorg-server, but because of the intel driver. The 2.8 series was problematic for many boards (according to the release announcement of 2.9.0), and you should now be running 2.7.
1.6.1.901 was the RC for 1.6.2, and in fact ended up being identical to 1.6.2, which is why the latter was never made into a package.
