Laptop wireless

Hello, this is my first post here. I just got rid of ubuntu for arch because I was excited about learning something new. The boot went fine but I have spent so much time trying to get my wireless card to work. I know this has been posted on a lot and I read everything I could find but it just won't work for me.

From the wiki I found I needed madwifi for the card on my acer aspire 3680 so I plugged into my router and installed it. After reboot I tried Modprobe ath_pci and blacklisted ath5k and ath9k, rebooting after each step just to see if something worked. Iwconfig shows my wlan0 with no connection, ifconfig doesn't show it and ifconfig wlan0 up returns a error that "up" isn't a command.

If someone has the time to type it up, could I just have a step by step. I was so enthusiastic about learning something new but not getting this vital step is very frustrating and demotivating.

Thanks arch community.

Re: Laptop wireless

What does lspci say? Do you have ath5k or ath9k chipset? Madwifi only works for ath5k
