Startx increadibly slow

Hi,

For some unknown reason the time between startx -- -nolisten tcp and the display of my xfce4 desktop has increased - we're talking perhaps 15-20 seconds. The screen goes blank and I get a mouse cursor that's all.
Normally I get a full desktop after 5 seconds.
This lag happened right after the dreaded xorg-server and related files upgrade, but I've downgraded all packages but still no joy. Other than that, my desktop environment is as snappy as before.

I'm pretty confident that it's a xfce related issue - I've experimented with Enlightment and I'm having no problems at all. It's also noteworthy that my main rig with xfce (and Nvidia) at home doesn't exhibit any of these problems.

I've also tried removing all entries in /.cache/session but the problem persists.
I also have very few saved sessions:

xfwm4
xfce4-panel
xfce4-power-manager
xfce4-settings-helper
xfdesktop

I'm running XFCE 4.6

Hardware - laptop with an ATI card

Re: Startx increadibly slow

I think I have the same problem (on my pc with an ati card [not sure if that matters]):
startx (i'm not using a graphical login manager) needs like 10seconds until i see my desktop (might have been 5seconds before.

Perhaps it is ATI + XFCE related. Again, I see no lag in ATI+Enlightment or Nvidia+XFCE.

Re: Startx increadibly slow

I haven't noticed an increase here, seems to be the same as it was before, the delay here is due to disk access.

Using xfce with an ati card.

Re: Startx increadibly slow

I had the same on my eee 1000h with Intel.

I think it has gotten a bit better since it began but I don't know why...
