No. I think X comes with a very simple WM though I often install Openbox and use that for testing if I am having X issues during setup. It is faster to install and has less depencies than my usual WM, XMonad.

You mean the cursor?
No, you don't need anything but X to see the cursor.

twm is the default window manager for X.

Sorry for my bad explanation... I know there are more than KDE and GNOME desktop environment, but I am new installing X from scratch and I didn't know if it was necessary to install a WM to see if it works.

Thanks for the info, is it more useful to install for testing X?

Yes, I mean the cursor, so, If I don't see the cursor after running startx it seems that X are bad, isn't it??
Finally, all I need to test my X is xorg and evdev, and if the screen blocks something is wrong, isn't it??
Thanks for the replies!!

Read the beginners guide carefully.
That's exactly what I do, follow the Beginners Guide onto another terminal with Lynx
I started hal before running "startx" and I added "hal" to my daemon list in /etc/rc.conf as well

if you are having problems finding out whetever it is starting properly I would suggest starting a program along with X, like xterm. it says somewhere in the beginners guide how to do it if you're unsure.

I remember to use xterm in one of my attempts, and it didn't work, but I don't remember the error message... And, I think xterm only work if you have xorg installed properly... but this is personal, so I'll try another time and will tell you about. Thanks for the suggest

I had the same result, but, in addition, after rebooting by button, the filesystem had errors and I needed to boot with rw root filesystem... I'm gonna try configuring Xorg another time, and I hope to be lucky this one... But, if you know another way, please, comment.
Thanks to all of you

Why do you have an xorg.conf if you use hal? Most hardware setups work out of the box with little or no configurations of hal.
Try the input hotplugging section of the guide.

Finally I was able to configure X, deleting xorg.conf and rebooting without the vga option in the grub kernel entry.
Now I'm enjoying my new Xfce Windows Manager over Arch!!!
Sorry for the posts, I was totally confused and now, I think it was only by the vga option in the grub entry....
