I am running the proprietary nvidia driver, using the awesome window manager. X starts up kinda slow given my minimal setup, and that bothers me a little. Here are the details:
The first time I start up X using startx (hence also loading my window manager), it takes a significant amount of time, even thought the nvidia module is already loaded.
If I then kill X and start it again, it starts up almost instantly. This is true even when I preform rmmod on the nvidia module; somehow the X server manages to load the nvidia module, start the server, and start my wm and associated programs faster than when on cold boot. If I don't perform rmmod on the module, there is no discernible difference.
Can someone explain these startup times? Thank you.
