No GUI

I have arch linux on a Tablet PC. I was trying to do an auto installation of some packages using an USB. The idea was, just by pluging-in a USB flash drive, the installations should happen by itself and comeout. I created the autorun program as described here : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=101451.

Once the installation gets over (The packages were installed properly), when I tried to open a terminal. It gave me error which looked something like
"There was an error creating a child process for this terminal"

I thought restarting the machine would fix this problem and restarted it.  But, the machine is directly going to tty1. if I try ctrl+alt+7, nothing comes.

I followed the suggestions given here : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=51100 . But it dint work.

Any suggestions?

Re: No GUI

There is no GUI out of the box. Did you install and configure one to begin with?

Moving to a more appropriate location.

Re: No GUI

In order to know what you are talking about you expect me/the rest of the world to go in search of info through two different threads.

You may get more help if you make useful info more accessible smile

Re: No GUI

Please tell us many more details.

What brand and model computer?
Which version of Arch Linux? (i686, x86_64, Arch Mobile...)
What GUI did you setup?
What packages did you install from the USB drive?
What filesystems are you using?
Can you use a keyboard with that computer?
Can your computer connect to the Internet?
...

Re: No GUI

I think I should have told " X Window System" not working. I'm not well acquainted with the terminologies. I'm sorry If I am sounding very naive.

I started using a Configured system.
* I'm using i686.
* GUI is gnome.
* From the USB, a few folders had to be copied to the device.
* Filesystem is Ext 4.
* I Can connect keyboard.
* The computer can connect to the internet.
