adding PATH

hi brothers,
here i have problem with PATH command. I m using RHEL5 .Here USERADD command is located at /usr/sbin.If i want to use this command i should have added the export PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin. If once my system is restarted that PATH is gone.I have tried to adding that path permanently by editing the /etc/profile and /.bash_profile.But nothing was work. Can anybody  give me the solution for this. Thanks in advance.

regards,
Prakash

Re: adding PATH

Things you export go into .bashrc (if you use bash):

export BROWSER="/usr/bin/firefox"
export EDITOR="/usr/bin/vim"
export LC_MESSAGES="C"
