Hi, i'm new to linux so i follow the wiki entry on installing hal.

When i enter a usb device or a dvd, the events show up in dmesg, though the devices arent mounted into /media/ could it be that hal mounts these somewhere else?

pls help i've been trying to solve this for days now

Which DE / WM are you using?

Re: [SOLVED]Hal doesn't auto mount

running hal does not automount your USB devices. You need a volume manager.

If you're using Gnome, nautilus should take care of this. If you're running thunar, make sure thunar-volman is also installed.

Re: [SOLVED]Hal doesn't auto mount

Thx for the quick response!

i'm using fluxbox

I was under the impression hall simply mounted devices automatically under /media/<<whatever device label is>. I thought i messed up the installation somehow.

i guess i'll install thunar then, thx!

Re: [SOLVED]Hal doesn't auto mount

Search the wiki for Udev. and create the appropriate rule for mounting. Hal has been deprecated and the mounting of devices is now handled by udev
