Difficulty Using xcompmgr

Hello All,

I recently tried setting up xcompmgr on openbox - but everytime i run the command "xcompmgr -c" every window dissapears the only way I can make them reappear is by pressing ctrl + c. I followed the xcompmgr wiki page to the word all except to one last critical [I believe] edit in Xorg.conf - in the wiki it recommends commenting out the dri module. However with my setup it relies on Xorg to auto load the required modules and therefore previously there was no line to be commented out, I tried adding a Disable line as seen in my Xorg.conf here:

Xorg ignores the Disable line and loads the module regardless so what I am asking is "Am I approaching this in the correct manner?" and if so "How do I force xorg to disable the dri module". Thanks for your time smile

p.s another thing of note is that I am currently relying xinitrc to run "nvidiasettings -l" in order to fix the underscan created by my DVI->HDMI->TV setup as I have been unable to do that in xorg.conf I don't really know if this could cause the issue.

Re: Difficulty Using xcompmgr

I remember the windows disappearing when first enabling it but if you move a window the screen will refresh.
Maybe your problem is different. Unfortunately xcompmgr isn't very well maintained anymore so problems like this will be more and more common I think.
Try playing with some of the other options too. I remember some options produced strange shadowy artifacts while others made it look ok.

Re: Difficulty Using xcompmgr

If you still use plain xcompmgr, try xcompmgr-dana. It works quite more reliably here.

To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.
