Rpcbind service function

sorry if doble post..
I want to know what is rpcbind function? if this service start,, nmap online can detect some opened port,
but if this service not active, nmap online can't detect any opened port..

sorry about my english...

rpcbind is required to run NFS. fam also requires it.  If you are not running anything which depends on or uses rpcbind you can disable it.

If it is stopped does everything still work as expected?

everything still work fine... but I'm so confused, why If this service start, NMAP can detect opened port?
