hi,
Even when my machine is idle it shows 100%cpu usage with all the resources hogged by i915.I killed the process and the machine is working fine now. This wasn't happening before and has started happening recently.

Where does it show that 100%, what app are you using to measure?
What kernel (version) are you using, what DE/WW?
i915 is the intel module / driver.

You may find this link interesting http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/8/15/111 Linus Torvalds has the same problem

It shows 100% when in top. The link given by Chok shows the same problem.. but no solution.

Downgrade your kernel to .34 and see if it still hogs your system.

Right now i have kernel26-2.6.35.4 which i updated on 27 aug. That is around the same time the problem began.Should i downgrade it to kernel26-2.6.35.3 or kernel26-2.6.34.3?

I think most people have been seeing the problems in any of the 2.6.35 kernels, so 2.6.34.3 would be my recommendation

+1
And put kernel26 in IgnorePkg.
