Ok, i messed up, destroyed my /home when i was trying to encrypt it with luks/dm-crypt. It failed because i disabled some aes cipher in my custom kernel.....retarded mistake.
I did a backup of my homedir yesterday.
My problem now is that my /home partion is messed up, getting input/output error since the crypt wiped everything but failed halfway into it. How do i restore my /home partion properly ?
Do i just mkfs it back to ext3 and remount it as home & copy my backup back, or do i need to take further steps?
I followed this guide btw:

If you don't want anything on the partition, reformatting it should do the trick.
