How to disable hdd on boot? [arch on usb key]

Hello, I'm playing with arch on usb key as secondary rescue system, I remove my hdd from laptop and during boot a get:

ata1 link is slow to respond device not ready... blah blah

arch after some time boots up normally but it takes some time it's annoying and I'm curious how to solve this, thanks in advance

Did you try disablingthe hdd controller in the bios?

There should be something like boot order - you can pick which drive to boot first etc. You should be able to disable them too:
First: USB
Second: CD
Third: None
Fourth: None

I should be clearer - wanted to do this without bios (of course i know how to setup bios), i try blacklist ata_piix and ahci but doesn't worked, there was something like hda=noprobe in grub but that worked only on older kernels?
