broadcom 80211

Hello, i'm having a hard time finding this answer in the forum search, so I thought I'd ask. If it is already answered, a link would be awesome smile
Anyway, I just got a netbook (hp 210) and it has a broadcom 43.. something. I found it needed the broadcom-wl driver. So I have it installed now.
I follow the directions and do modprobe 80211-crypt-tkip which works. When I do the next step: modprobe wl, it tells me the module doesn't exist. Since my arch desktop never used wireless, i have NO experience with this. Could someone help me figure out what's up?

EDIT: well, I found a kernel-netbook download and decided to try that. But I have a second issue, the trackpad doesn't have a right-click. a work around I found on ubuntu forums was:
echo options psmouse proto=exps > /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe
but are there actual drivers that fix this, as well as give me the vertical scroll of the pad? Synaptics is already installed, for those wondering tongue

Re: broadcom 80211

1 problem at a time...

How to use the Broadcom-driver is written in the wiki. In short: you need to chose between the b43-driver and the broadcom-wl-driver. If you chose the second, you need to install the broadcom-wl package available in AUR. You also need to reinstall this driver everytime you install a new kernel (f.e. 2.6.34 -> 2.6.35 / Not 2.6.35.4 -> 2.6.35.5)

Then you will be able to 'modprobe wl'

Re: broadcom 80211

well, here's the thing. I have kernel-netbook installed. THis kernel includes the broadcom-wl driver in it. The same issue occurs when I try to do modprobe wl. what's up with broadcom always having crappy hardware for linux...

EDIT: Okay i just reinstalled the system with the newest archboot iso https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=102918
i then installed broadcom-wl from the AUR. However, i still cannot get 'modprobe wl' to work. Do I have to manually recompile the -wl package. I'm wondering this because the archboot uses a newer kernel ( I assume, didn't check). Would that be the source of my problems?

Re: broadcom 80211

*sigh* well, since this isn't something I'm willing to wait on and no one has been able to help, though thank you for trying Zenlord, I'll just have to use ubuntu. I'd rather use arch over ubuntu (understatement) but under ubuntu wireless just works.

@Zenlord. I decided to go to Broadcom's website and download the files from there. I untarred them patched them, re-tar, then make. After, I used modprobe lib80211 and  insmod wl.ko (file created from the make process. wl still isn't found though) and nothing was showing an error, but it refuses be able to use wireless...

EDIT: now I see why people hate laptops and linux, it's a headache tongue but I refuse to give in and put Windows on this netbook big_smile
